Abstract

Profile of Malignant Skin Tumors at Fatmawati Central General Hospital, Jakarta

Abstract

Malignant skin tumors (MSTs) are classified into two main groups: non-melanoma, which includes basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC); and melanoma, which encompasses malignant melanoma (MM). The incidence of skin cancer has been increasing over the past few decades, but data in Indonesia remains limited. This study aims to determine the profile of MSTs at the Dermatology Venereology and Aesthetics Clinic and Oncology Surgery Clinic of Fatmawati Central General Hospital, Jakarta, during the period January 2022–September 2023. This study employs a descriptive retrospective design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from medical records using a total sampling technique, and 86 records met the inclusion criteria. BCC was the most common type of MST (59.3%), with a higher incidence in males (53.5%). The age group of 61–70 years was the most dominant (34.9%), and the most common tumor location was the head area (73.3%). BCC is the most prevalent type of skin cancer at Fatmawati General Hospital, particularly among males over 60 years old, with most frequent location being in sun-exposed areas such as the face.
